While most folks like to use phone cases to keep their phones safe and to add a dash of colour to their everyday carry, I like to rely on phone skins instead. In this post I’ll go over some of the reasons why I prefer phone skins over cases and maybe sway you over to my team (if you aren’t already).
Unlimited customisation options
Skins provide the option to completely personalise the look of your phone and have it stand out! Also, textured phone skins provide an extra layer of grippability and great in-hand feel. I love the black sandstone textured skin that I bought from Gadgetshield for my Poco X3. Since the back of the Poco X3 is made up of glossy plastic, I wanted to cover it up to avoid fingerprints and smudges. And putting a case on this mammoth phone made it feel very heavy. So applying a skin here was a good option to give it some customisation and grippability. I also like how the dragon skin from dbrand elevates the in-hand feel of my Samsung Galaxy S10. Also, you won’t find many red Galaxy S10s out there.
Design retention
For me, the main reason for getting a skin for my phone is to retain the thin form factor of the phone. Phone manufacturers design their phones to be functional and to look enticing. A lot of them tend to skew towards creating phones with glass backs, curved edges and slim profiles. But, its a shame that all of the hard work that goes into designing a phone ends up being covered with bulky phone cases. Skins help to provide middle ground of mild protection and design retention. The transparent skins, in my opinion, help retain the maximum design elements of a phone.
Mild protection
Phone skins will provide minor protection from daily scratches and dents. Also, if your phone has a slippery glass back and you’re not using a case with it, a skin will help eliminate the chance of the phone slipping out of your hand or off a table. A skin will not be able to protect your phone from damage via a drop on a hard surface. A case is definety recommended for such drops.
Good resale value
When you’re considering a phone upgrade or want to live the digital detox life, you can get a good resale value for your phone on account of no damage to the body thanks to the phone skin. The mild protection from daily wear and tear really helps mintain the ‘out of box’ pristine look of the phone.
Where can I buy them?
If you’re sold on the idea of using skins for our phone, then great! welcome to the club! Now your next question for me will be, “Maryam, where can I buy a skin? Should I just look one up on Amazon?”. Well yes, Amazon should be fine, but if you want good quality phone skins that stand the test of time, then I will point you in the direction of dbrand, Slickwraps and if you’re buying phone skins in India, then Gadgetshieldz. The reason for getting skins from these brands is the fact that you can remove them without worrying about adhesive residue on your phone, which might be a problem if you buy non-branded skins from Amazon. Last year, I reviewed both the dbrank skins and Gadgetshieldz skins on my YouTube channel. It’s worth checking out the reviews if you want to see how they’ve held up on my devices so far.
